2022 Classic

The 2021 event was a roaring success with records broken all over the place. It was our first event at the Andoom oval grounds surrounded by a massive crowd of amazing Weipa locals and visitors. What a weekend!!!!!

Some of the highlights for the committee was the record numbers who attended the event, the record prize pool which was in excess of $200,000, we gave away more than 100 random prizes, 23 top prizes, 70 plus rod and reel combos for the lucky fishing winners….. the list goes on. Then we all loved busting a groove to the awesome deck spinning Berserk Brothers and the crew from Dr Elephant. What a party

How about the gold coin family fun with the jumping castles and blow up entertainment – the kids (and adult kids) really had a jumping fat time. The committee really worked hard to give the community something extra special – well done to our amazing committee.

This year marks 17 years for the event and we have a few new recruits join us – check out who is on the committee in out links. There is still plenty to do so if you want to join this awesome group of generous volunteers, please send us a message or email. The churn of works is well underway and our proud, honest, hard working and committed community volunteers are already breaking a sweat organising merchandise, shirt designs, organising sub committees, sponsor packs and the overall event plan. We have more amazing surprises so hang onto you hats Weipa – this will blow your minds…..

We are expecting that this year this fabulous event draws even more visitors from across the country to compete in the biggest fishing competition in Cape York and arguably one of the best in the state; as well as the chance to take home a haul of prizes from the multi day family friendly event.

So its time to start putting your spare change in the fishing fund, organising your teams, planning which secret spot will produce, fish species to target and getting the fishing reels warmed up in preparation for this years 17th anniversary of the Weipa Fishing Classic.
